Sutter Yuba Homeless Consortium releases first annual report on homelessness

Post Date:09/26/2022 9:10 AM

A “Point In Time Count” counts the number of homeless on a given day in January, and it’s not easy to count everyone in a day. This report, the first of its kind, looks at the number of people who sought services from the Coordinated Entry locations in Marysville and Yuba City in 2021: 3,325 people from 2,178 households, including 412 households with children. There were 1,255 people from Sutter County and 2,070 from Yuba County who sought services at Coordinated Entry.

These numbers are greater than the PIT count because it looks at the entire year, not just the number of people homeless on one day.

The 60 page report details the history of the Sutter-Yuba Homeless Consortium and lists all the partners working on the issue. The report breaks information down into various demographic profiles. The report is something homeless providers can use to document needs when applying for grant funding for housing.

The report clearly notes the need for affordable housing. Lack of affordable housing is keeping many homeless on the streets, according to homeless service providers.
